Destiny 2 The Lament Quest Steps | How To Get Beyond Light Exotic Sword

Destiny 2 The Lament

Destiny 2 The Lament is the new Exotic Sword added to the game with the Beyond Light expansion.

This Exotic quest was released right after the first completion of the Deep Stone Crypt raid.

This quest is very easy to complete, but it requires a little bit of farming some Vex kills.

The Lament Exotic sword is a very powerful weapon, if not one of the most damage-dealing weapons right now, so you may want to get it faster.

How to Start the Lost Lament Quest

To start The Lament Exotic quest you will have to go to the tower and speak with Banshee-44.

He will then give you an Exotic quest called Lost Lament with the first step to get The Lament Exotic Sword.

Step 1: Find 3 Dead Exos

In the first step of the Lost Lament quest, you will need to find 3 dead Exos on Europa.

There are a total of 9 dead Exos scattered across Europa, but for this quest, you will only need to find 3 of them.

The easiest ones to find may be the ones in Cadmus Ridge, Bray Exoscience, and Creation, just because you can find all of them in a single run.

You can follow the video below as a locations guide, the timestamps are in the video description.

Step 2: Find The Giant Exo

In this step of the Lost Lament quest, you will need to find the Giant Exo head in the BrayTech facility.

You will have to travel to the Bray Exoscience area, as you enter this area go through the door on the right staircase.

In that room you will find an open door on the right side, that leads you to the new Creation area.

You can also mark the quest on the map to have a waypoint and get there quickly.

Then just follow that path until you reach the Giant Exo head, I am sure you will not miss it.

Activate it and speak with it to receive the next step in the Lost Lament quest.

Step 3: Kill Vex With Swords

In this step, you will have to do a little bit of grinding, you need to kill 100 Vex with a sword and 20 Minotaurs, Hydras, or Cyclopses.

(note that you will have to kill all with swords and only red-bar enemies seem to count)

The fastest way I found to get this done was to head into the Perdition Lost Sector in Cadmus Ridge.

You can repeat the Lost Sector until you have the 100 Vex kills, but then you should still need to kill some Minotaurs, Hydras, or Cyclopses.

So, in the Perdition Lost Sector, there are 3 red-bar Minotaurs, one in the first room and two in the room after the staircase.

Just kill those 3 Minotaurs, then leave the Lost Sector until you reach the Cadmus Ridge area and get back in, so they spawn again, do that until you have killed all 20.

Step 4: Complete an Exo Challenge

To complete this step, you will have to first unlock the Empire Hunts.

To do that you will need to complete Varik’s post-campaign questline and do the Dark Priestess Empire Hunt.

With that done, you will also have to do the Variks Old Secrets, New Challenges quest.

Grab that quest from Variks and go to the waypoint on the map.

This quest is also an Exo Challenge, so once you complete that, you will progress in the Lost Lament quest and finish the Old Secrets, New Challenges quest.

If you have already unlocked the Exo Challenges before doing the Lost Lament quest, you can select the Exo Challenges from the map and complete one.

Step 5: Defeat Vex With Finishers

Like step 3, this one also requires a little bit of grinding, you will have to defeat Vex with finishers.

To do that, just go again to the Perdition Lost Sector and bring a weapon that does low damage per shot to get those Vex to the finisher point.

You can complete this step in around two completions of the Perdition Lost Sector.

Step 6: Find The Blade Pieces

For this step, you will need to find some blade pieces in The Glassway strike.

Just progress through the strike as normal and in the final Boss room, you will have to kill a Transcendent Harpy.

That Harpy will spawn with the Boss, when you kill it, it will drop the Blade Pieces.

You can then leave the strike, you don’t need to finish it.

And it seems that when the Boss is about a third of the way dead, it will also drop the Blade Pieces.

Step 7: Speak With Banshee-44

Now you will have to take the Blade Pieces to Banshee, and he will remember some old memories.

He will then give it back to you as a Broken Blade, and it will sit in the Heavy weapon slot until you finish the quest.

And he will then ask you to find an abandoned bunker in Eventide Ruins.

Step 8: Explore The Abandoned Bunker

For this step, you just need to complete the Bunker E15 Lost Sector in Eventide Ruins.

Complete the Lost Sector and loot the chest, and you will progress to the next step.

Step 9: Reforging The Past Mission

When you complete the Lost Sector you will receive an urgent message from Clovis Bray AI telling you that the Vex are attacking him and that you need to rescue him.

With that, right next to the entrance of the Bunker E15 Lost Sector there will be the Reforging the Past mission flag.

Note that you will get The Lament Exotic sword inside this mission.

Start the mission and the first thing you will need to do is hop in a tank and run over those Vex.

Then Clovis Bray AI will call for your assistance, and you will have to fight through the Bray Exoscience and Creation areas until you reach the giant Exo head.

You will then place the broken blade in the pedestal for the Clovis AI to reforge.

After that you will be able to pick up the sword and equip it, the room will be filled with heavy ammo boxes for you to pick up too.

Then you will have to defeat all the Vex that spawn with your new Exotic sword and then speak with the Clovis AI.

And with that, you will be able to keep the Exotic Sword.

Step 10: Speak With Banshee-44

After the mission, you will keep the Exotic sword, but you still have to go talk with Banshee-44.

He will thank you for rebuilding his old sword and tell you that you can keep it.

And with all that done, The Lament is all yours.

The Lament is a very powerful Exotic, but you will have to learn how to use it, to make it deal some of the highest damage in the game.

This Exotic is especially useful in the second encounter of the Deep Stone Crypt raid.

Its Exotic Perk is Banshee’s Wail, but to use that perk you will need to make a combo that you must execute like this:

  • Hold block to rev the blade
  • While holding block, light attack three times
  • Still holding block, hit heavy attack

This combo will deal massive damage to enemies and break Champion shields.
